Situated in Southeastern Europe, Bulgaria occupies the northeastern part of the Balkan Peninsula (22% of its square).
The country is situated on the west coast of the Black Sea, with Romania to the north, Greece and Turkey to the south, and Serbia and Macedonia to the west.
The country is partially mountainous (Stara Planina, Sredna Gora, Pirin, the Rilo-Rhodope Massif), partially hilly. The highest peak in Bulgaria and the entire Balkan Peninsula is Musala (2925 m).
Sofia is the capital of Bulgaria.
The population is about 7 mln people.
